In publishing today the questions are Ebooks? Print books? Online marketing?
Do you want a rehash of old ideas? Or a look at new ones? Join in the discussion at the February Midwest Independent Publishers Association (MIPA) meeting on February 9, 2011 at 7:00 pm (social hour at 6:30 pm) in the Joule Suites at 1200 Washington Ave, Minneapolis.
Kirk House Publisher Leonard Flachman will highlight the pertinent learnings for 2011 from the May 2010 publishing university in the context of a "Search for the Silver Bullet." Leonard was the 2010 MIPA scholarship winner; applications for the 2011 award will be available at the meeting.
Leonard will talk about technologies that were not around in May of 2010, and their implication for the publishing industry. He will talk about the new technologies, about change, about adaptation, and about hype.
Leonard said, "as publishers do we use new technologies to churn out the same old stuff? 750,000 books published in 2009, one million in 2010. In 2011? At what number is the quality line? Are we creating a new low common denominator? What contributes? Does that hurt the publisher who produces with quality? Will we find the silver bullet? Is it too elusive?"
Come and find out!
